The Symmetry Energy: Current Status of Ab Initio Predictions vs. Empirical Constraints

    Francesca Sammarruca

Infinite nuclear matter is a suitable laboratory to learn about nuclear forces in many-body systems. Modern theoretical predictions of neutron-rich matter are particularly timely in view of recent and planned measurements of observables which are sensitive to the equation of state of isospin-asymmetric matter. For these reasons, over the past several years we have taken a broad look at the equation of state of neutron-rich matter and the closely related symmetry energy, which is the focal point of this article. Its density dependence is of paramount importance for a number of nuclear and astrophysical systems, ranging from neutron skins to the structure of neutron stars. We review and discuss ab initio predictions in relation to recent empirical constraints. We emphasize and demonstrate that free-space NN data pose stringent constraints on the density dependence of the neutron matter equation of state, which essentially determines the slope of the symmetry energy at saturation.

Spin polarization and correlation of quarks from glasma

    Avdhesh Kumar🇹🇼 · Berndt Müller🇺🇸 · Di-Lun Yang🇹🇼

We investigate the interaction of strong color fields in the glasma stage of high-energy nuclear collisions with the spins of quarks and antiquarks. We employ the perturbative solution of the quantum kinetic theory for the spin transport of (massive) quarks in a background color field governed by the linearized Yang-Mills equation and derive expressions for the quark-spin polarization and quark-antiquark spin correlation at small momentum in terms of field correlators. For the Golec-Biernat Wüsthoff dipole distribution the quark-spin polarization vanishes, but the out-of-plane spin correlation of quarks and antiquarks is nonzero. Our order-of-magnitude estimate of the correlation far exceeds that caused by vorticity effects, but does not fully explain the data for vector meson alignment. We identify possible mechanisms that could further increase the predicted spin correlation.

Correlation between the nuclear structure and reaction dynamics of Ar-isotopes as projectile using the relativistic mean-field approach

    Monalisa Das · J. T. Majekodunmi · N. Biswal · R. N. Panda · M. Bhuyan

This theoretical study is devoted to bridging the gap between the nuclear structure and reaction dynamics and unravelling their impact on each other, considering the neutron-rich light mass 30-60Ar isotopes. Using the relativistic mean-field with the NL3* parameter set, several bulk properties such as binding energies, charge radii, quadrupole deformation parameter, two neutron separation energy, and differential two neutron separation energy with the shell closure parameter are probed for the mentioned isotopic chain. For validation, the RMF (NL3*) results are compared with those obtained from the finite range droplet model (FRDM), Weizsacker-Skyrme model with WS3, WS* parameters and the available experimental data. Most of the participating isotopes are found to be prolate in structure and neutron shell closures are conspicuously revealed at N=14, 20, 40 but weakly shown at N=24, 28, 34. From our analysis, a central depletion in the nucleonic density is identified in 32Ar and 42-58Ar, indicating them as possible candidates for a semi-bubble-like structure. Interestingly, these results are consistent with recent theoretical and experimentally measured data. Besides, using the Glauber model, the reaction cross-sections are determined by taking 26-48Ar as projectiles and stable targets such as 12C, 16O, 40Ca, 90Zr, 124,132Sn, 208Pb and 304120. Although there is no experimental evidence for the stability of 304120, it has been predicted in Ref. [Mod. Phys. Lett. A {\bf 27}, 1250173 (2012)] as a stable nucleus. A relatively higher cross-section value is noticed between 30Ar and 32Ar which infers that 32Ar is the most stable isotope among the considered chain. Moreover, we noticed that the profile of the differential cross-sections and scattering angle are highly influenced by the mass of the target nuclei and the magnitude of the incident energy of the projectile nucleus.

On nuclear short-range correlations and the zero-energy eigenstates of the Schrodinger equation

Saar Beck · Ronen Weiss · Nir Barnea

We present a systematic analysis of the nuclear 2 and 3-body short range correlations, and their relations to the zero-energy eigenstates of the Schrodinger equation. To this end we analyze the doublet and triplet Coupled-Cluster amplitudes in the high momentum limit, and show that they obey universal equations independent of the number of nucleons and their state. Furthermore, we find that these Coupled-Cluster amplitudes coincide with the zero-energy Bloch-Horowitz operator. These results illuminate the relations between the nuclear many-body theory and the generalized contact formalism, introduced to describe the nuclear 2-body short range correlations, and it might also be helpful for general Coupled-Cluster computations as the asymptotic part of the amplitudes is given and shown to be universal.

Forbidden beta decay properties of Te using shell-model

Shweta Sharma · Praveen C. Srivastava · Anil Kumar

In this work, the large-scale shell-model calculations for -decay properties have been done. The -delayed -ray spectroscopy has been performed recently at ILL, Grenoble [M. Si \textit{et al.}, Phys. Rev. C {\bf 106}, 014302 (2022)] to study -decay properties corresponding to Te (( I () transitions. We have done a systematic shell-model study for nuclear structure properties and compared the obtained results with the experimental data. Finally, the -decay properties such as the values and average shape factors have been reported. This is the first theoretical calculation for the values corresponding to these new experimental data. In addition, we have also reported calculated results for Te (( I () transitions.
