Valleytronic full configuration-interaction approach: An application to the excitation spectra of Si double-dot qubits

    Constantine Yannouleas🇺🇸 · Uzi Landman🇺🇸

The influence of strong electron-electron interactions and Wigner-molecule (WM) formation on the spectra of singlet-triplet double-dot Si qubits is presented based on a full configuration interaction (FCI) approach that incorporates the valley degree of freedom (VDOF) in the context of the continuous (effective mass) description of semiconductor materials. Our FCI treats the VDOF as an isospin in addition to the regular spin. Our treatment is able to assign to each energy curve in the qubit's spectrum a complete set of good quantum numbers for both the spin and the valley isospin. This reveals an underlying SU(4) SU(2) SU(2) group-chain organization in the Si double-dot spectra. With parameters in the range of actual experimental situations, we demonstrate in a double-dot qubit that, in the (2,0) charge configuration and compared to the expected large, and dot-size determined, single-particle (orbital) energy gap, the strong interactions drastically quench the spin-singletspin-triplet energy gap, , within the same valley, making it competitive to the small energy gap, , between the two valleys. We present results for both the and cases. We investigate the spectra as a function of detuning and demonstrate the strengthening of the avoided crossings due to a lowering of the interdot barrier and/or the influence of valley-orbit coupling. We further demonstrate, as a function of an applied magnetic field, the emergence of avoided crossings in the (1,1) charge configuration due to the spin-valley coupling. The valleytronic FCI formulated here, and implementeded for two electrons confined in a tunable double quantum dot, offers also a most effective tool for analyzing the spectra of Si qubits with more than two wells and/or more than two electrons.

Discovering QCD-Coupled Axion Dark Matter with Polarization Haloscopes

    Asher Berlin🇺🇸 · Kevin Zhou🇺🇸

In the presence of QCD axion dark matter, atoms acquire time-dependent electric dipole moments. This effect gives rise to an oscillating current in a nuclear spin-polarized dielectric, which can resonantly excite an electromagnetic mode of a microwave cavity. We show that with existing technology such a "polarization haloscope" can explore orders of magnitude of new parameter space for QCD-coupled axions. If any cavity haloscope detects a signal from the axion-photon coupling, an upgraded polarization haloscope has the unique ability to test whether it arises from the QCD axion.

    Four-quark scatterings in QCD I

    Wei-jie Fu🇨🇳 · Chuang Huang🇨🇳 · Jan M. Pawlowski🇩🇪 · Yang-yang Tan🇨🇳

We investigate dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and the emergence of mesonic bound states from the infrared dynamics of four-quark scatterings. Both phenomena originate from the resonant scalar-pseudoscalar channel of the four-quark scatterings, and we compute the functional renormalisation group (fRG) flows of the Fierz-complete four-quark interaction of up and down quarks with its channel momentum dependence. This is done in the isospin symmetric case, also including the flow of the quark two-point function. This system can be understood as the fRG analogues of the complete Bethe-Salpeter equations and quark gap equation. The pole mass of the pion is determined from both direct calculations of the four-quark flows in the Minkowski regime of momenta and the analytic continuation based on results in the Euclidean regime, which are consistent with each other.

symmetry restoration at high baryon density

    Jianing Li🇨🇳 · Jin Gui🇨🇳 · Pengfei Zhuang🇨🇳

We study the relation between chiral and symmetries in the quark-meson model. Although quarks and mesons are described in mean field approximation, the topological susceptibility characterizing the breaking comprises two components: one controlled by the condensate and the other by the meson fluctuation. The restoration is governed by the competition of these components. In a hot medium, the condensates melt. However, the fluctuation is enhanced. Therefore, the symmetry cannot be solely restored via the temperature effect. Nevertheless, the baryon density reduces the condensates and fluctuation, and thereby, the symmetry can only be restored in a dense or dense and hot medium. The strange condensate plays a weak role in the susceptibility, and the chiral and symmetry restorations occur almost at the same critical point.

BiFold: A Python code for the calculation of double folded (bifold) potentials with density-in/dependent nucleon-nucleon interactions

    Mesut Karakoç

BiFold calculates the density-dependent (DDM3Y, BDM3Y, CDM3Y) or independent double folded potentials between two colliding spherical nuclei. It is written in a Python package form to give the ability to use the potentials directly in a nuclear reaction/structure code. In addition to using Woods-Saxon/Fermi or Gaussian functions, the code also allows for the definition of nuclear matter densities using pre-calculated densities in a data file. The manuscript provides an overview of the double folding model and the use of the code.

Bottom hadro-chemistry in high-energy hadronic collisions

    Min He🇨🇳 · Ralf Rapp🇺🇸

The hadro-chemistry of bottom quarks () produced in hadronic collisions encodes valuable information on the mechanism of color-neutralization in these reactions. Since the -quark mass is much larger than the typical hadronic scale of 1\,GeV, pair production is expected to be well separated from subsequent hadronization processes. A significantly larger fraction of baryons has been observed in proton-proton () and proton-antiproton () reactions relative to collisions, challenging theoretical descriptions. We address this problem by employing a statistical hadronization approach with an augmented set of -hadron states beyond currently measured ones, guided by the relativistic quark model and lattice-QCD computations. Assuming {\it relative} chemical equilibrium between different -hadron yields, thermal densities are used as fragmentation weights of -quarks into various hadron species. With quark model estimates of the decay patterns of excited states, the fragmentation fractions of weakly-decaying hadrons are computed and found to agree with measurements in collisions at the Tevatron. By combining transverse-momentum () distributions of -quarks from perturbative QCD with thermal weights and independent fragmentation toward high , a fair description of the -dependent and ratios measured in collisions at the LHC is obtained. Finally, we implement the hadro-chemistry into a strongly-coupled transport approach for -quarks in heavy-ion collisions, utilizing previously determined -quark transport coefficients in the Quark-Gluon Plasma, to highlight the modifications of hadro-chemistry and collective behavior of hadrons in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC.

enhancement with non-thermalized bottom quarks in nuclear collisions at Large Hadron Collider

    Jiaxing Zhao🇨🇳 · Pengfei Zhuang🇨🇳

We study production in high-energy nuclear collisions in a transport approach with dissociation and regeneration at finite temperatures. Due to the rare production in p+p collisions and the strong combination of uncorrelated and quarks in the quark-gluon plasma, the yield is significantly enhanced in the nuclear collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Moreover, the centrality and momentum-dependent yield of sensitively reflect the thermalization degree of bottom quarks. And the newly observed experimental data favors a far from the thermal bottom quark distribution in the quark-gluon plasma.

Rotating Solar Models in Agreement with Helioseismic Results and Updated Neutrino Fluxes

    Wuming Yang

Standard solar models (SSMs) constructed in accordance with old solar abundances are in reasonable agreement with seismically inferred results, but SSMs with new low-metal abundances disagree with the seismically inferred results. The constraints of neutrino fluxes on solar models exist in parallel with those of helioseismic results. The solar neutrino fluxes were updated by Borexino Collaboration. We constructed rotating solar models with new low-metal abundances where the effects of enhanced diffusion and convection overshoot were included. A rotating model using OPAL opacities and the Caffau abundance scale has better sound-speed and density profiles than the SSM with the old solar abundances and reproduces the observed -mode frequency ratios and . The depth and helium abundance of the convection zone of the model agree with the seismically inferred ones at the level of . The updated neutrino fluxes are also reproduced by the model at the level of . The effects of rotation and enhanced diffusion not only improve the model's sound-speed and density profiles but bring the neutrino fluxes predicted by the model into agreement with the detected ones. Moreover, the calculations show that OP may underestimate opacities for the regions of the Sun with K by around , while OPAL may underestimate opacities for the regions of the Sun with K K by about .
