General relativity effects in precision spin experimental tests of fundamental symmetries

A search for the - and -violating electric dipole moments (EDM) of atoms, particles and nuclei with sensitivity up to in units of magnetic dipole moments, allowed by all discrete symmetries, is one of the topical problems of modern physics. According to Sakharov, -violation is one of the three key criteria of baryogenesis in generally accepted paradigm of the Big Bang cosmology. All three criteria are supported by the Standard Model (SM), but it fails to describe the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe. This is regarded a strong argument in favor of existence of -symmetry breaking mechanisms beyond minimal SM, which can lead to measurable EDMs of atoms, particles and nuclei. Direct searches for EDM of charged particles and nuclei are possible only in storage rings (COSY, NICA). After successful studies by the JEDI collaboration at the COSY synchrotron, at the forefront is a search for the proton EDM in an electrostatic storage ring with the proton spin frozen at the magic energy with projected sensitivity cm. Following a brief introduction to the -violation physics and the baryogenesis, the review presents a detailed discussion of significant contributions to the spin dynamics from the terrestrial gravity along with the new effects of Earth's rotation in ultrasensitive searches for the EDM of charged particles and neutrons. Quite remarkably, for the projected sensitivity to the proton EDM, these false EDM effects can by one to two orders of magnitude exceed the signal of the proton EDM, and become comparable to an EDM contribution in experiments with ultracold neutrons. We also discuss the role of a precessing spin as a detector of the axion-like dark matter, and consider applications of the quantum gravitational anomalies to the dense matter hydrodynamics and the spin phenomena in the non-central nuclear collisions.

Classical and relavistic simple wave problems solved with Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics

To simulate the expansion of the matter created in relativistic nuclear collisions, codes in 3+1 dimensions are used and we are developing a new one. To benchmark such codes, the Sod's shock tube is often used. A closely related problem is the one-dimensional expansion of a gas into vacuum. In this paper, we study this problem classically and relativistically with the Smoothed Particle Method and test various techniques to improve the precision and speed of the solution.

New calculations of neutron and kaon decays

    Chien-Yeah Seng🇩🇪

We describe two recent developments of the radiative correction theory in semileptonic beta decays. For neutron, a novel dispersive analysis of the -box diagram making use of neutrino scattering data leads to an improved precision and a shifted central value of ; for kaon, an appropriate combination of meson form factors, lattice QCD inputs and chiral perturbation theory gives a much-improved determination of the radiative corrections in semileptonic kaon decays. These new calculations help to unveil/sharpen a series of anomalies in the measurements of and that may point towards the existence of new physics.

Impact of centre vortex removal on the Landau-gauge quark propagator in dynamical QCD

    Adam Virgili🇦🇺 · Waseem Kamleh🇦🇺 · Derek Leinweber🇦🇺

The important role of centre vortices in dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and corresponding dynamical mass generation has been demonstrated in pure gauge studies of the Landau-gauge quark propagator. We present initial results of our investigation into the impact of centre vortex removal on the Landau-gauge propagator on dynamical gauge fields. To ensure sensitivity to the topology of the gauge fields, the propagator is computed with overlap fermions. Upon removal of centre vortices we find that dynamical mass generation is suppressed. The quark renormalisation function remains remarkably flat except in the deep infrared where it exhibits significant suppression. These effects become more prominent at lighter quark masses.

QCD Phase Boundary and the Hadrochemical Horizon

    Berndt Müller🇺🇸

I review the physics of the phase boundary between hadronic matter and quark matter from several different points of view. These include thermodynamics, statistical physics, and chemical kinetics. In particular, the review focuses on the role of the chemical freeze-out line and its relation to the concept of valence quark percolation. The review ends with some recollections of Jean Cleymans.
