Resonance Electroproduction and the Origin of Mass

    Craig D. Roberts🇨🇳

One of the greatest challenges within the Standard Model is to discover the source of visible mass. Indeed, this is the focus of a "Millennium Problem", posed by the Clay Mathematics Institute. The answer is hidden within quantum chromodynamics (QCD); and it is probable that revealing the origin of mass will also explain the nature of confinement. In connection with these issues, this perspective describes insights that have recently been drawn using contemporary methods for solving the continuum bound-state problem in relativistic quantum field theory and how they have been informed and enabled by modern experiments on nucleon-resonance electroproduction.

Simple Woods-Saxon type form for and interactions using Folding Model

    Faisal Etminan🇮🇷 · Mohammad Mehdi Firoozabadi🇮🇷

We derive a simple Woods-Saxon type form for the potentials between and by using a single-folding potential method, based on a separable -nucleon potential. Accordingly, the potentials and are obtained using the ESC08c Nijmegens potential (in channel) and HAL QCD Collaboration interactions (in lattice QCD), respectively. In deriving the potential between and , the same potential between and is used. Binding energy, scattering length and effective range of particle on the alpha particle are approximated by the resultant potentials. The depths of the potentials in and systems are obtained and MeV, respectively. In the case of potential, a fairly good agreement is observed between the single-folding potential method and the phenomenological potential of Dover-Gal model. These potentials can be used in 3-,4- and 5-body cluster structures of and hypernuclei.

Three-body Description of -Halo and Unbound -Systems: C and O

    Jagjit Singh · W. Horiuchi · L. Fortunato · A. Vitturi

We study the two-neutron correlations in the ground state of the weakly-bound two-neutron halo nucleus C sitting at the edge of the neutron-drip line and also in the unbound nucleus O sitting beyond the neutron dripline. For the present study, we employ a three-body (core) structure model designed for describing the two-neutron halo system by explicit inclusion of unbound continuum states of the subsystem (core). We use either a density-independent or a density-dependent contact-delta interaction to describe the neutron-neutron interaction and its strength is varied to fix the binding energy. We report the configuration mixing in the ground state of these systems for different choices of pairing interactions.

    Recent progress on hypernuclei

    Avraham Gal🇮🇱

Some of last year's progress made in hypernuclear physics is reviewed as follows: (i) resolving the He overbinding problem in single- hypernuclei [1]; (ii) arguing that the onset of binding double- hypernuclei is most likely at =5, with the neutral systems n and n unbound by a large margin [2]; and (iii) revising the calculated value of the loosely bound H lifetime to a level of 20% shorter than the free lifetime [3], given recent claims from relativistic heavy ion experiments that H) is shorter than by as much as (308)%. Also discussed briefly in this context is the lifetime expected for the questionable n hypernucleus.

Impact of error analysis on the composition the outer crust of a neutron star

    D Neill · K Medler · A Pastore · C Barton

By means of bootstrap technique, we perform a full error analysis on the Duflo-Zucker mass model. We illustrate the impact of such study on the predicted chemical composition of the outer crust of a non-accreting neutron star. We define an existence probability for each nuclear species as a function of the depth of the crust. We observe that, due to statistical uncertainties, instead of having a well defined transition between two successive layers, we have a mixture of two species.

Chiral kinetic theory from Landau level basis

    Shu Lin🇨🇳 · Lixin Yang🇨🇳

We derive a chiral kinetic theory with Landau level basis, which is valid for slow-varying magnetic field with arbitrary magnitude. We apply the new chiral kinetic theory to calculate the electric conductivity transverse to the magnetic field in a magnetized QED and QCD plasma. Under the lowest Landau level approximation and relaxation time approximation, we find the transverse conductivity approaches a constant in the large magnetic field limit and is inversely proportional to the relaxation time. We also obtain a frequency-dependent transverse conductivity in response to a time-dependent electric field. We find a high frequency enhancement in this conductivity.

The mean transverse momentum of ultracentral heavy-ion collisions: A new probe of hydrodynamics

    Fernando G. Gardim🇧🇷 · Giuliano Giacalone🇫🇷 · Jean-Yves Ollitrault🇫🇷

We predict that the mean transverse momentum of charged hadrons rises as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity in ultracentral nucleus-nucleus collisions. We explain that this phenomenon has a simple physical origin and represents an unambiguous prediction of the hydrodynamic framework of heavy-ion collisions. We argue that the relative increase of is proportional to the speed of sound squared of the quark-gluon plasma. Based on the value of from lattice QCD, we expect to increase by approximately MeV between 1\% and 0.001\% centrality in Pb+Pb collisions at TeV.
