Isospin equilibration in multinucleon transfer reaction at near-barrier energies

The isospin equilibration process in multinucleon transfer reaction is investigated by using the improved quantum molecular dynamics model. The collision processes of Xe+Pb at near-barrier energy are studied with different symmetry energy coefficients. We find that neutrons transfer happens earlier than protons. The large symmetry energy promote the transfer of neutrons. The neutron flow from the target to projectile is along the low-density path of neck. The isospin equilibration process in Ni+Pb reaction is also investigated and compared with available experimental data. It shows that values of the projectile-like products increase rapidly with increasing mass transfer. The complete isospin equilibration events are located in the region of which are produced in symmetric fission-type reactions.

A possible probe of the new fifth force

    Gao-Chan Yong🇨🇳

The proposed protophobic fifth force in \emph{Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf \emph{117}}, 071803 (2016)} recently attracts much attention. To confirm or refute the existence of this new interaction, here I propose a method to probe the protophobic fifth force in dense matter that formed in nucleus-nucleus collisions. As expected, the protophobic fifth force has negligible effects on the usual observables in nucleus-nucleus collisions. While the protophobic fifth force evidently affects the value of final positively and negatively charged pions ratio at very high kinetic energies. The signal thus could be used to probe the protophobic fifth force in dense matter by nucleus-nucleus collisions' experiments at current experimental equipments worldwide.

Analysis of clustering phenomena in ab initio approaches

    D. M. Rodkin · Yu. M. Tchuvil'sky

An approach for explicit consideration of cluster effects in nuclear systems and accurate ab initio calculations of cluster characteristics of nuclei is devised. The essential block of the approach is a construction of a basis which incorporates both conventional No-Core Shell Model wave functions and translationally-invariant wave functions of various cluster channels. The results of computations of the total binding energies of 8Be nucleus as well as the spectroscopic factors of cluster channels (amount of clustering) are presented. An unexpected fresh result of the rigorous study is that the contribution of "non-clustered" components of the basis to the total binding energy is great even in the typical cluster systems such as the discussed nucleus.

Test of the Porter-Thomas distribution with the total cross section autocorrelation function

    E. D. Davis

On the basis of experiments conducted in the 1970s and earlier, it is believed that, in a compound nucleus (CN), fluctuations in transition strengths are drawn from a Porter-Thomas distribution (PTD), a distribution of one degree of freedom. However, work done post-1990 at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) and Oak Ridge Electron Linear Accelerator (ORELA) facilities has yielded instances of neutron resonance data sets of superior quality that are inconsistent with the PTD. In view of the importance of the status of the PTD to the foundations of statistical reaction theory, the question arises whether other data acquired at these facilities can be mined for evidence of deviations from the PTD? To date, the focus has been on data taken in the regime of isolated resonances. In this letter, arguments are put forward in support of the analysis of measurements of the total cross section in the regime where resonances are weakly overlapping.
