Delocalized SYZ Mirrors and Confronting Top-Down -Structure Holographic Meson Masses at Finite and with P(article) D(ata) G(roup) Values

    Vikas Yadav🇮🇳 · Aalok Misra🇨🇦 · Karunava Sil🇮🇳

Meson spectroscopy at finite gauge coupling - whereat any perturbative QCD computation would break down - and finite number of colors, from a top-down holographic string model, has thus far been entirely missing in the literature. This paper fills in this gap. Using the delocalized type IIA SYZ mirror (with structure) of the holographic type IIB dual of large- thermal QCD of arXiv:hep-th/0902.1540 as constructed in arXiv:hep-th/1306.4339 at finite coupling and number of colors ( = Number of )-branes wrapping a vanishing two-cycle in the top-down holographic construct of arXiv:hep-th/0902.1540 = in the IR in the MQGP limit of arXiv:hep-th/1306.4339 at the end of a Seiberg duality cascade), we obtain analytical (not just numerical) expressions for the vector and scalar meson spectra and compare our results with previous calculations of hep-th/0412141, arXiv:1409.0559 [hep-th], and obtain a closer match with the Particle Data Group (PDG) results (Chin. Phys. C, 38, 090001 (2014) and 2015 update). Through explicit computations, we verify that the vector and scalar meson spectra obtained by the gravity dual with a black hole for all temperatures (small and large) are nearly isospectral with the spectra obtained by a thermal gravity dual valid for only low temperatures; the isospectrality is much closer for vector mesons than scalar mesons. The black hole gravity dual (with a horizon radius smaller than the deconfinement scale) also provides the expected large- suppressed decrease in vector meson mass with an increase of temperature.

Jet Substructure at the Large Hadron Collider: A Review of Recent Advances in Theory and Machine Learning

    Andrew J. Larkoski🇺🇸 · Ian Moult🇺🇸 · Benjamin Nachman🇺🇸

Jet substructure has emerged to play a central role at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), where it has provided numerous innovative new ways to search for new physics and to probe the Standard Model in extreme regions of phase space. In this article we provide a comprehensive review of state of the art theoretical and machine learning developments in jet substructure. This article is meant both as a pedagogical introduction, covering the key physical principles underlying the calculation of jet substructure observables, the development of new observables, and cutting edge machine learning techniques for jet substructure, as well as a comprehensive reference for experts. We hope that it will prove a useful introduction to the exciting and rapidly developing field of jet substructure at the LHC.

Spin dependence of {\eta} meson production in proton-proton collisions close to threshold

Taking advantage of the high acceptance and axial symmetry of the WASA-at-COSY detector, and the high degree of the polarized proton beam of COSY, the reaction pp{\to} pp{\eta} has been measured close to threshold to explore the analyzing power Ay. The angular distribution of Ay is determined with the precision improved by more than one order of magnitude with respect to previous results allowing a first accurate comparison with theoretical predictions. The determined analyzing power is consistent with zero for an excess energy of Q = 15 MeV signaling s wave production with no evidence for higher partial waves. At Q = 72 MeV the data reveals strong interference of P s and P p partial waves and cancellation of (P p) and Ss*Sd contributions. These results rule out the presently available theoretical predictions for the production mechanism of the {\eta} meson.

Thermal states of neutron stars with a consistent model of interior

    M. Fortin · G. Taranto · G. F. Burgio · P. Haensel · H.-J. Schulze · J. L. Zdunik

We model the thermal states of both isolated neutron stars and accreting neutron stars in X-ray transients in quiescence and confront them with observations. We use an equation of state and superfluid baryon gaps, which are consistently calculated. We conclude that the direct Urca process is required to be consistent with low-luminous accreting neutron stars. In addition, proton superfluidity and sufficiently weak neutron superfluidity are necessary to explain the cooling of middle-aged neutron stars and to obtain a realistic distribution of neutron star masses.
