    -boson production in association with a jet at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD

    We present the complete calculation of -boson production in association with a jet in hadronic collisions through next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD. To cancel infrared divergences we introduce a new subtraction method that exploits the fact that the -jettiness event-shape variable fully captures the singularity structure of QCD amplitudes with final-state partons. This method holds for processes with an arbitrary number of jets, and is easily implemented into existing frameworks for higher-order calculations. We present initial phenomenological results for +jet production at the LHC. The NNLO corrections are small and lead to a significantly reduced theoretical error, opening the door to precision measurements in the +jet channel at the LHC.

    Observation of charge asymmetry dependence of pion elliptic flow and the possible chiral magnetic wave in heavy-ion collisions

    We present measurements of and elliptic flow, , at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at 200, 62.4, 39, 27, 19.6, 11.5 and 7.7 GeV, as a function of event-by-event charge asymmetry, , based on data from the STAR experiment at RHIC. We find that () elliptic flow linearly increases (decreases) with charge asymmetry for most centrality bins at and higher. At , the slope of the difference of between and as a function of exhibits a centrality dependence, which is qualitatively similar to calculations that incorporate a chiral magnetic wave effect. Similar centrality dependence is also observed at lower energies.

    Exploring a new SU(4) symmetry of meson interpolators

    In recent lattice calculations it has been discovered that mesons upon truncation of the quasi-zero modes of the Dirac operator obey a symmetry larger than the symmetry of the QCD Lagrangian. This symmetry has been suggested to be that mixes not only the u- and d-quarks of a given chirality, but also the left- and right-handed components. Here it is demonstrated that bilinear interpolating fields of a given spin transform into each other according to irreducible representations of or, in general, . This fact together with the coincidence of the correlation functions establishes as a symmetry of the mesons upon quasi-zero mode reduction. It is shown that this symmetry is a symmetry of the confining instantaneous charge-charge interaction in QCD. Different subgroups of as well as the algebra are explored.

    Transition electromagnetic form factor and current conservation in the Bethe-Salpeter approach

    The transition form factor for electrodisintegration of a two-body bound system is calculated in the Bethe-Salpeter framework. For the initial (bound) and the final (scattering) states, we use our solutions of the Bethe-Salpeter equation in Minkowski space which were first obtained recently. The gauge invariance, which manifests itself in the conservation of the transition electromagnetic current Jq = 0, is studied numerically. It results from a cancellation between the plane wave and the final state interaction contributions. This cancellation takes place only if the initial bound state BS amplitude, the final scattering state and the operator of electromagnetic current are strictly consistent with each other, that is if they are found in the same dynamical framework. A reliable result for the transition form factor can be obtained in this case only.
