    Nucleon-pion-state contribution to nucleon two-point correlation functions

    We study the nucleon-pion-state contribution to the QCD two-point function of the standard nucleon interpolating fields. For sufficiently small quark masses these two-particle states are expected to have a smaller total energy than the single-particle excited states. We calculate the nucleon-pion-state contribution to leading order in chiral perturbation theory. Both parity channels are considered. We find the nucleon-pion-state contribution to be small, contributing at the few percent level to the effective mass in the positive parity channel.

    Anisotropic particle production and azimuthal correlations in high-energy pA collisions

    We summarize some recent ideas relating to anisotropic particle production in high-energy collisions. Anisotropic gluon distributions lead to anisotropies of the single-particle azimuthal distribution and hence to disconnected contributions to multi-particle cumulants. When these dominate, the four-particle elliptic anisotropy changes sign. On the other hand, connected diagrams for -particle cumulants are found to quickly saturate with increasing , a ``coherence'' quite unlike conventional ``non-flow'' contributions such as decays. Finally, we perform a first exploratory phenomenological analysis in order to estimate the amplitude of the anisotropy of the gluon distribution at small , and we provide a qualitative prediction for the elliptic asymmetry from three-particle correlations, .

    Introduction to Hydrodynamics

    We give a pedagogical review of relativistic hydrodynamics relevant to relativistic heavy ion collisions. Topics discussed include linear response theory derivation of 2nd order viscous hydrodynamics including the Kubo formulas, kinetic theory derivation of 2nd order viscous hydrodynamics, anisotropic hydrodynamics and a brief review of numerical algorithms. Emphasis is given to the theory of hydrodynamics rather than phenomenology.

    Quark-Hadron Phase Transition with Finite-Size Effects in Neutron Stars

    We study the quark-hadron phase transition with the finite-size effects in neutron stars. The finite-size effects should be, generally, taken into account in the phase transition of multi-component system. The behavior of the phase transition, however, strongly depends on the models for quark and hadron matter, surface tension, neutrino fraction, and temperature. We find that, if the surface tension is strong, the EOS becomes similar to the case of a Maxwell construction for any hadron and/or quark model, though we adopt the Gibbs conditions. We also find that the mass-radius relations for that EOS are consistent with the observations, and our model is then applicable to realistic astrophysical phenomena such as the thermal evolution of compact stars.
