Proton induced $K^{+}$ production and the $s s ˉ$ content of the proton

We investigate the exclusive proton-induced $K^{+}$ production near the kaon threshold. Compared are two models: a meson-exchange model, which includes $π$ , \rho $,$ K $an d$ K^\ast $e x c han g e, t o g e t h er w i t h t h e d o minan t ba r y o n r eso nan ces, an d a q u a r k - g l u o nm o d e l, w h er e m o m e n t u m s ha r in g i s p r o v i d e d v ia t h ee x c han g eo f tw o g l u o n s . B a se d o n co v a r ian t b o u n d s t a t e w a v e f u n c t i o n s f or t h e m eso nan d t h e ba r y o n s - w hi c h w e t r e a t a s q u a r k - d i q u a r k o bj ec t s - f i r s t r es u l t s f or t h e$ pp\to p\Lambda K^+$ total cross section are presented for both models.
