Nuclear dynamics and particle production near threshold energies in heavy-ion collisions

    Zhao-Qing Feng🇨🇳

Recent progress of the quantum molecular dynamics model for describing the dynamics of heavy-ion collisions is viewed, in particular the nuclear fragmentation, isospin physics, particle production and in-medium effect, hadron-induced nuclear reactions, hypernucleus etc. The neck fragmentation in Fermi-energy heavy-ion collisions is investigated for extracting the symmetry energy at subsaturation densities. The isospin effects, in-medium properties and the behavior of high-density symmetry energy in medium and high energy heavy-ion collisions are thoroughly discussed. The hypernuclide dynamics formed in heavy-ion collisions and in hadron induced reactions is analyzed and addressed in the future experiments at the High-Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF).

A new leading contribution to neutrinoless double-beta decay

    V. Cirigliano🇺🇸 · W. Dekens🇺🇸 · J. de Vries🇳🇱 · M. L. Graesser🇺🇸 · E. Mereghetti🇺🇸 · S. Pastore🇺🇸 · U. van Kolck🇫🇷

Within the framework of chiral effective field theory we discuss the leading contributions to the neutrinoless double-beta decay transition operator induced by light Majorana neutrinos. Based on renormalization arguments in both dimensional regularization with minimal subtraction and a coordinate-space cutoff scheme, we show the need to introduce a leading-order short-range operator, missing in all current calculations. We discuss strategies to determine the finite part of the short-range coupling by matching to lattice QCD or by relating it via chiral symmetry to isospin-breaking observables in the two-nucleon sector. Finally, we speculate on the impact of this new contribution on nuclear matrix elements of relevance to experiment.

    Safe and free instantons

    Francesco Sannino🇺🇸 · Vedran Skrinjar🇮🇹

We investigate the instanton dynamics of asymptotically safe and free quantum field theories featuring respectively controllable ultraviolet and infrared fixed points. We start by briefly reviewing the salient points about the instanton calculus for pure Yang Mills (YM) and QCD. We then move on to determine the role of instantons within the controllable regime of the QCD conformal window. In this region we add a fermion-mass operator and determine the density of instantons per unit volume as function of the fermion mass. Finally, for the first time, we extend the instanton calculus to asymptotically safe theories.

Are there monopoles in the quark-gluon plasma?

    Adith Ramamurti🇺🇸 · Edward Shuryak🇺🇸 · Ismail Zahed🇺🇸

Monopole-like objects have been identified in multiple lattice studies, and there is now a significant amount of literature on their importance in phenomenology. Some analytic indications of their role, however, are still missing. The 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles, originally derived in the Georgi-Glashow model, are an important dynamical ingredient in theories with extended supersymmetry , and help explain the issues related with electric-magnetic duality. There is no such solution in QCD-like theories without scalar fields. However, all of these theories have instantons and their finite- constituents known as instanton-dyons (or instanton-monopoles). The latter leads to semiclassical partition functions, which for theories were shown to be identical ("Poisson dual") to the partition function for monopoles. We show how, in a pure gauge theory, the semiclassical instanton-based partition function can also be Poisson-transformed into a partition function, interpreted as the one of moving and rotating monopoles.
