Excited collective states of nuclei within Bohr Hamiltonian with Tietz-Hua potential

    M. Chabab · A. El Batoul · M. Hamzavi · A. Lahbas · M. Oulne

In this paper, we present new analytical solutions of the Bohr Hamiltonian problem that we derived with the Tietz-Hua potential, here used for describing the {\beta}-part of the nuclear collective potential plus harmonic oscillator one for the {\gamma}-part. Also, we proceed to a systematic comparison of the numerical results obtained with this kind of {\beta}-potential with others which are widely used in such a framework as well as with the experiment. The calculations are carried out for energy spectra and electromagnetic transition probabilities for {\gamma}-unstable and axially symmetric deformed nuclei. In the same frame, we show the effect of the shape flatness of the {\beta}-potential beyond its minimum on transition rates calculations.

Alignment of wave functions for angular momentum projection

    Yasutaka Taniguchi

Angular momentum projection is used to obtain eigen states of angular momentum from general wave functions. Multi-configuration mixing calculation with angular momentum projection is an important microscopic method in nuclear physics. For accurate multi-configuration mixing calculation with angular momentum projection, concentrated distribution of components of angular momentum in the body-fixed frame (-distribution) is favored. Orientation of wave functions strongly affects -distribution. Minimization of variance of is proposed as an alignment method to obtain wave functions that have concentrated -distribution. Benchmark calculations are performed for -Mg cluster structure, triaxially superdeformed states in Ar, and Hartree-Fock states of some nuclei. The proposed alignment method is useful and works well for various wave functions to obtain concentrated -distribution.

Interplay of projectile breakup and target excitation in reactions induced by weakly-bound nuclei

    M. Gomez-Ramos · A. M. Moro

In this work, we reexamine the extension of the CDCC formalism to include target excitation and apply it to a variety of reactions to study the effect of breakup on inelastic cross sections. We use a transformed oscillator basis to discretize the continuum of the projectiles in the different reactions and use the extended CDCC method developed in this work to solve the resulting coupled differential equations. A new code has been developed to perform the calculations. Reactions 58Ni(d, d) 58Ni*, 24Mg(d, d) 24Mg* , 144Sm( 6Li, 6Li) 144Sm* and 9Be( 6Li, 6Li) 9Be* are studied. Satisfactory agreement is found between experimental data and extended CDCC calculations. The studied CDCC method is proved to be an accurate tool to describe target excitation in reactions with weakly-bound nuclei. Moderate effects of breakup on inelastic observables are found for the reactions studied. Cross section magnitudes are not modified much, but angular distributions present smoothing when opposed to calculations without breakup.

Proton distribution radii of C illuminate features of neutron halos

    R. Kanungo · W. Horiuchi · G. Hagen · G. R. Jansen · P. Navratil · F. Ameil · J. Atkinson · Y. Ayyad · D. Cortina-Gil · I. Dillmann · A. Estradé · A. Evdokimov and 26 other authors

Proton radii of C densities derived from first accurate charge changing cross section measurements at 900 MeV with a carbon target are reported. A thick neutron surface evolves from 0.5 fm in C to 1 fm in C. The halo radius in C is found to be 6.40.7 fm as large as Li. Ab initio calculations based on chiral nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon forces reproduce well the radii.

Towards generating a new supernova equation of state: A systematic analysis of cold hybrid stars

    Oliver Heinimann🇨🇭 · Matthias Hempel🇨🇭 · Friedrich-Karl Thielemann🇨🇭

The hadron-quark phase transition in core-collapse supernovae (CCSNe) has the potential to trigger explosions in otherwise nonexploding models. However, those hybrid supernova equations of state (EOS) shown to trigger an explosion do not support the observational 2 M neutron star maximum mass constraint. In this work, we analyze cold hybrid stars by the means of a systematic parameter scan for the phase transition properties, with the aim to develop a new hybrid supernova EOS. The hadronic phase is described with the state-of-the-art supernova EOS HS(DD2), and quark matter by an EOS with a constant speed of sound (CSS) of . We find promising cases which meet the 2 M criterion and are interesting for CCSN explosions. We show that the very simple CSS EOS is transferable into the well-known thermodynamic bag model, important for future application in CCSN simulations. In the second part, the occurrence of reconfinement and multiple phase transitions is discussed. In the last part, the influence of hyperons in our parameter scan is studied. Including hyperons no change in the general behavior is found, except for overall lower maximum masses. In both cases (with and without hyperons) we find that quark matter with can increase the maximum mass only if reconfinement is suppressed or if quark matter is absolutely stable.
